PHOENIX – Apple is retiring iTunes and bringing a whole new app for music streaming.
The announcement came at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 3. To help make the new music app more functional, Apple is breaking up some features of iTunes into separate apps- Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Podcasts. All three apps will be available with the new Mac OS Catalina update coming later in the fall.
Here are a few things to expect with the update:
- Real-time song lyrics that will scroll as the song progresses, available to Apple Music on iOS and Apple TV
- Multi-user support, allowing each user in a home to access their Apple Music libraries and preferences with a click.
- Stream live radio in iOS 13, with 100,000 stations available from iHeartRadio, TuneIn and Radio.com through Siri.
- Share audio between devices, allowing two people to listen to the same song or audiobook simultaneously.
