Strings Attached tour announced
The Prince of Parodies is at it again, folks! That’s right, “Weird Al” Yankovic is taking to the road once more with his brand-new Strings Attached tour. Unlike last year’s Completely Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour — which featured Al and the band playing his original songs, complete with stories — this tour will feature the parodies, originals and more with a full orchestra backing up the band!
The previous tour can be heard in its entirety on Stitcher Premium (it’s worth the $5). All 77 shows, complete with a unique cover song in the encore, all at your fingertips. The app also has a ton of great podcasts that you can check out in between concerts, but I digress. It is my genuine hope that Al decides to record and release this tour on Stitcher as well, simply because I probably won’t be afforded the opportunity to check out the tour this go-round either.
The dates were just announced this morning, so there aren’t many details about set lists, but I must admit to a certain measure of excitement for this tour. To hear my favorite Al songs (most of which are originals) in a symphonic format is an exciting thing. Imagine “Eat It” played on a cello or “Waffle King” with a full, lush string section. Violas on “Dare to Be Stupid.” Hey, it could work! One never knows until the tour begins.
The announcement of this tour is certainly a surprise; I thought he’d try out a similar concept to the Vanity tour, but I like the creative new direction Al in which Al is heading. It’s refreshing and immediate, as opposed to the long hiatus between albums many long-time fans have grown to accept over the past few decades.
For our local readers, he’ll be coming to Red Rocks in Colorado on Aug. 1, 2019, and Phoenix on Aug. 3. For everyone else, a full tour list can be found at the official website.
