Doctor Who will have a new composer as well as a new cast and production team when Series 11 begins screening this fall.
Segun Akinola has signed on as the composer for the BBC’s science fiction flagship, the company announced Tuesday. He succeeds Murray Gold, who’s been with the series since it relaunched in 2005.
“Doctor Who is woven into the fabric of British culture and recognized globally. I am absolutely thrilled to be given the privilege of working on such a beloved series and to bring my musical voice to it,” Akinola said in a press release.
New showrunner Chris Chibnall added: “We’re over the moon Segun’s agreed to join us, to provide the score for the next phase of the Doctor Who adventure. From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We’re looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor.”
Doctor Who Series 11, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor (the first female version), debuts sometime this fall. BBC America will carry the series Stateside.
