Fans of Dr. Demento and punk rock are in for a treat on Jan. 12, 2018, with the upcoming release of the newest Dr. D compilation, Dr. Demento Covered in Punk. It’s available for pre-order at Amazon, if you want to check it out. The album is going to feature remakes of classic demented tunes, interspersed with the good doctor’s typical commentary, as if it were an actual episode of The Dr. Demento Show. The set includes contributions by “Weird Al” Yankovic, Joan Jett and William Shatner.

Yeah, that’s right. I said William Shatner. Captain Kirk himself performs a cover of an old Cramps tune, “Garbageman.” It’s…exactly what you’d expect from a William Shatner recording. Unlike some of Dr. D’s previous albums, this one features all new recordings, steeped in the punk tradition. It’s going to be available on two CDs, Three LPs or digitally.

Of course, I’m going to nerd out on this one. I buy anything “Weird Al” or Dr. Demento anyway, so this is a treat. The punk aspect is only the icing on the cake. I cannot wait to get hold of this and, of course, provide you with the inevitable review.

Beat on the Brat

Earlier today, “Weird Al” announced his contribution to the record, which you can see below:

The “Weird Al” Track will also appear on Al’s upcoming Squeeze Box box set.

The Garbageman

For William Shatner’s take on the Cramps classic, “The Garbageman,” look out below:

What do you think, music fans? Are you planning to buy the new Dr. Demento compilation? I’ve already pre-ordered and can’t wait to hear this new and exciting album from one of my favorite people!
