Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ movie review: a magic ride down memory lane

By J Russell

PHOENIX – Since the trailer dropped in March, the world has waited to see the real live action film,Aladdin. This movie is near and dear to many Disney fans’ hearts with many great memories from the 1992 classic.

Mena Massoud’s role as Aladdin didn’t capture his character fully until Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine, graced the screen. Their chemistry shines through the scene, especially during the “A whole new world” song.

Goosebumps! Another factor fans showed a major backlash about was the CGI work of Will Smith as the genie. Take a deep breath, Smith would make the late great Robin Williams proud.  When the Fresh Prince came out of the lamp, the muscular blue genie took over the film.

Viewers may notice vibes of Smith playing the dating coach Hitch from a previous film for Aladdin while trying to help Prince Ali seal the deal with Princess Jasmine.

Let’s be honest, if you have a magic carpet and that doesn’t get you a date, what will?

The costume designs, the detail in the clothing, and the showcasing of the Middle Eastern & Indian culture for the world to see are all amazing.

I found Abu, Iago and the magic carpet funnier than Aladdin. He has way too much swag that wasn’t showcased.

Jasmine displays leadership qualities and looks to change the norm of equal opportunity positions.

The throwback Disney scenes are clutch throughout the film and moviegoers will likely get caught in all the nostalgia.

Aladdin gets four out of five lamps! Make one of your three wishes come true this weekend.

Disney’s Aladdin is in theaters this Friday, May 24!
