George Lucas still messing up ‘Star Wars’

Clone Wars from Lucasfilm and Cartoon NetworkGeorge Lucas just doesn’t know how to sit back and enjoy the spoils of “Star Wars.” He’s so pumped by his underlings’ early work on the upcoming CGI TV series “The Clone Wars” that he’s decided to get personally involved in its production.

I have a bad feeling about this.

In the words of the Flanneled One at the project’s Web site: “The action is great but that’s not just what this series is about – we need much more dialog [sic], and we need to get to know these characters.”

Oh, no. No no no no no no no.

Action is one of the few things Lucas got right in the prequel trilogy. And it’s what made Cartoon Network’s original “Clone Wars” animated series so successful.

Dialogue and character development clearly took a back seat in the prequels … no amount of meddling in this TV series, which will take place between “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith,” can right those wrongs.

At least it will have lightsabers, and the Jar-Jar quotient should be low.
