They’re trashier than Lauren Boebert, dumber than Donald J. Trump, more disgusting than Jessica Simpson’s refusal to brush her teeth, and more poorly written than an episode of The Kardashians. And this is somehow supposed to celebrate a highly regarded animated series? What?

Very Short Treks doesn’t celebrate Star Trek: The Animated Series because it’s nothing like TAS. The ’70s cartoon was an extension of the ’60s live-action show. Same writers, same cast. Very Short Treks utterly fails as a celebration because it isn’t celebrating anything–it’s mocking the subject matter. It utterly fails as a send-up to TAS because there are no similarities at all other than the drawing style. And it fails as humor because it commits the cardinal sin of a comedic venture: it’s not at all funny.

This has been a complete disaster, and TAS deserves better. The other so-called “celebration,” the IDW comic The Scheimer Barrier, is less gross but just as stupid and poorly written. TAS’s 50th anniversary should have been celebrated by people who actually like and respect TAS, not lampooned as though it were some space flotsam no one enjoys. CBS screwed this one up, badly, and the vast majority of fans and critics are rightly complaining about it.

Comment on Stepping to the beat: Revisiting Wii’s Samba de Amigo from Sega by Tyler https://nerdvana.co/gaming/nintendo/wii/revisiting-samba-de-amigo/119260/#comment-6959 Sun, 27 Jun 2021 14:50:51 +0000 https://nerdvana.co/?p=119260#comment-6959 They said how much they wanted to make a new samba de Amigo for the Nintendo Switch. That’s what they at least said back in 2017. So why did they never actually did that? I’m asking because I and plenty of people were really looking forward to it.

Fortunately, this horrendous ship was not approved.

Comment on Fact check: Lorraine Williams destroyed, not created, TSR by GreyGrognard https://nerdvana.co/gaming/fact-check-lorraine-williams-destroyed-not-created-tsr/13825/#comment-6791 Wed, 27 Jan 2021 00:12:30 +0000 http://nerdvana.freedomblogging.com/?p=13825#comment-6791 It’s so odd to chance across this nearly 12 year old article while reading a history of Gygax and TSR and cross checking the author’s account (mostly out of curiosity.) The amusing thing is to see in the final paragraph the phrase “the glory days of gaming are gone.” At the time, with the (IMO) execrable 4th edition in print, I may have agreed, as the hobby seemed fractured, tired, and not really going anywhere. And yet, now, at the beginning of 2021, 5e (love it or not) has re-energized D&D, in no small part because of Critical Role and similar web shows, and the growing YouTube/Twitch/Discord communities driving the hobby to amazing heights of interest and into the cultural consciousness of the non-gaming world in ways we haven’t seen since the 80’s. I’ve played D&D myself since 1979, with my old pink box followed quickly by the original 3 hardcovers, and now run a campaign (set in Critical Role’s “Exandria), coming up on its first year anniversary, with my two sons and four of their friends online that has been going weekly without fail since right when COVID hit. Looking back at the time of this article, I can’t believe I have this opportunity and this much fervor for the game around me. The glory days may not be quite the same, but I think they’re very much back.

Hi, Jayson. Thanks for replying. Revelation. I’m in US and trying to watch through my Amazon Prime membership (with Britbox add-on). It’s bizarre: Episode 1 is 24 minutes (interestingly, with a cliff-hanger aptly timed). But then Episode 2 starts with a gap in plot, so if it were a four-parter, it’d be missing episode 2 if that makes sense. None of the other episodes have gaps like this; all other episodes of this season of 6th are 44 minutes–2 parters, save Two Doctors which is a 3-parter.

Resurrection or Revelation? I just conducted thorough research and it’s all intact on my end (U.S.). Are you in UK?

Any idea what’s going on?

Comment on Minecraft, Centipede among World Video Game Hall of Fame 2020 winners by pcnerd37 https://nerdvana.co/technology/world-video-game-hall-of-fame-2020-winners/145419/#comment-6007 Sun, 21 Jun 2020 12:38:40 +0000 https://nerdvana.co/?p=145419#comment-6007 I think this is definitely the most disappointing list of inductees yet. I’m cool with Centipede getting in now but not so much any of the others. Minecraft deserves to get inducted at some point but its too soon for it now and I would say Bejeweled is the same way. I think a game must be at least three console generations old before it can be considered for induction. But for Kings Quest to be chosen over any of the others which included games like GoldenEye, Frogger and Super Smash Bros?! No way!
