Safaricom has announced the availability of 5G mobile data packages. It’s worth noting that the plans have been available for a while, but the telco did not explicitly inform customers about them, which is where we come in.

It has been a couple of months since the commercial launch of 5G in the country. Safaricom is taking care of both individuals with 5G smartphones and groups that want to use 5G as their primary fixed data connection, provided they are in an area served by 5G signals, similar to how 4G Wi-Fi operates.

To access these bundles, ensure that you have a supported smartphone and are in an area with the signal. Then, dial *444# and select a plan that suits your needs.

Here are the packages:

Package Price in KESDataValidity
1000100015 GB30 Days
2000200035 GB30 Days
3000300065 GB30 Days
50005000100 GB30 Days
1000010000200 GB30 Days

Safaricom adds that these packages will be available in the mySafaricom app soon.

If you will be unable to exhaust your subscription, the extra data will not be rolled over to the next month, but considering 5G is very fast, we doubt you will be able to do that.

You are also wondering: will you be able to use the bundles if you are not in an area with 5G? Well, the answer is yes. All you need is a 3G or 4G connection, but for the best experience, just make sure you are in a 5G zone.

The packages can be purchased many times over the month.

Do you think they are a good deal?

  1. I don’t know what it costs Safaricom to offer their services therefore I’m in no position to criticise their data rates. However, data bundles and airtime should not have an expiry date. Kwani ni tomato nanunua? Ama it will cost them a fortune to have all their products be non-expiring? The expiry dates are obviously a devilish maneuver meant to milk more money from us; I could be wrong though.

    • Safaricom,Kindly rethink that idea of not rolling over the remains to the next month.
      We are your customers.
