A Zelda movie has been in the works for many years, according to the classic Nintendo game's creator ...

A Legend of Zelda movie.

It’s finally happening. And let’s face it, it was bound to happen after the success of the recent Super Mario Bros. Movie

A live-action film based on the 1986 Nintendo Entertainment System game The Legend of Zelda, or at least one of its many sequels or spin-offs, is in development — after “many years.” That’s according to the man himself:

“I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films,” Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto posted Tuesday on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Uh, yeah we are. A Zelda movie bringing the land of Hyrule to life is only something that’s inspired unofficial (and sometimes very convincing) efforts for literally decades.

Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is on board as director for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, with Miyamoto serving, as with Super Mario Bros., as producer, alongside Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad. Sony Pictures and Nintendo are splitting the movie financing costs.
