Mazama Mountaineering Center
527 SE 43rd Avenue
Portland, OR 97215
Our base camp is at Mazama Mountaineering Center, located at the corner of
SE Stark St. and SE 43rd St. in Portland’s Laurelhurst neighborhood. This facility offers two instructional climbing walls (which we’ll use on Wednesdays and Fridays), a large auditorium, plentiful recreational space, and much more. From there, we’ll explore the outdoors around the center and in nearby Laurelhurst Park where we’ll learn about urban nature and the vibrant life in the beautiful green spaces around us.
For three of the session weeks, we’ll take a day trip to the other Mazama facility, the Mazama Lodge! This beautiful wooden lodge is on US Forest Service Land, nestled between Timberline Lodge and Government Camp on Mount Hood. While at the Mazama Lodge we will enhance the Adventure WILD nature and arts programming by taking nature walks and scavenger hunts, learning to identify alpine plants and animals, learning about the morphology of Mount Hood and history of the area, and doing art projects inspired by the mountain scenery
